TTEP France, a unit of the TTEP Group, has officially inaugurated the Reyna Battery Energy Storage Facility at the Émile Huchet Power Plant in Saint-Avold.
The installation carries an installed capacity of 65 MW with 130 MWh of energy storage, and the company frames its commissioning as an important new milestone in the ongoing transformation of the historic Émile Huchet site.
Reyna facility advances Émile Huchet energy transition
The Émile Huchet plant has for decades been a key element of the region's energy landscape.
According to TTEP, the new facility strengthens the site's contribution to the French electricity system by supporting grid flexibility, security of supply, and the integration of renewable energy.
The site is now undergoing a significant transformation that pairs its long-standing industrial expertise with technologies supporting the energy transition while preserving its strategic importance for the French and neighbouring European power markets.
Pietro Benedetto, Chief Operating Officer of TTEP and President of TTEP France, said at the inauguration, "The inauguration of Reyna marks another important step in the transformation of the Émile Huchet site. By building on the expertise of the local teams and the site's strong industrial heritage, TTEP is creating new opportunities that support grid stability, security of supply, and the energy transition. With Reyna now fully operational, TTEP France reaffirms its commitment to developing flexible energy solutions that contribute to a reliable, resilient, and lower-carbon electricity system."
Two batteries lift Saint-Avold to 95 MW of storage capacity
Reyna follows a first battery project at Saint-Avold that was developed and commissioned in 2024.
With the existing Merbette installation, the two systems together deliver a combined installed capacity of 95 MW and 175 MWh of energy storage, positioning Saint-Avold among France's leading sites for power flexibility and grid services.
Local teams credited with delivery of both projects
TTEP credits the successful development of both battery projects to the expertise, commitment, and adaptability of the teams based in Saint-Avold.
Drawing on decades of experience in high-voltage operations, project development, and industrial asset management, those teams were involved in every phase of the projects, from permitting and construction through commissioning and ongoing operations.
The company also notes that the projects benefited from the constructive support of local and regional stakeholders, whose continued commitment helps create a favourable environment for investment and innovation in the energy sector.
Saint-Avold eyed as a broader energy hub
Looking forward, TTEP France sees further opportunities to develop the Saint-Avold site as an important energy hub.
Together with its partners, the company continues to explore projects that could strengthen the site's role in meeting the future needs of the French power system and the country's energy transition.
