A cooperation agreement between Oman's Nama Holding and China's State Grid International Development will see two battery energy storage projects developed in Duqm and Ibri, with a combined capacity of 1 gigawatt.
Nama Framework Agreement Advances Projects in Two Omani Locations
The signing took place in Beijing, attended by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, on the sidelines of the Oman–China investment forum.
According to Nama, the framework agreement formalises and builds on existing cooperation between the two companies as the projects move forward in the two Omani locations.
Technical Configuration of the Two Facilities
Each of the two storage facilities will connect to Oman's electricity transmission network at 400 kilovolts.
Battery storage systems capture electricity and release it when required, a capability that enables grid operators to smooth out variations in output from renewable sources such as solar and wind power.
What the Projects Are Meant to Achieve
Nama Holding said the developments are intended to reinforce the stability and reliability of the national grid, raise operational efficiency, and facilitate the integration of renewable energy into the country's electricity system.
Consistency with Oman Vision 2040
The company stated that the battery storage initiatives are consistent with Oman Vision 2040 and support the nation's shift towards clean energy.
