State-owned energy company SEC has finalised a 10-year offtake agreement with Pacific Partners covering a new 102-megawatt, four-hour battery at the Glenrowan Solar Farm in Victoria's northeast, alongside the solar farm itself.
The deal, announced on 2 November 2026, replaces an existing arrangement between the two parties under which SEC already provides an offtake to the 102 MW solar facility, which is owned by Pacific Partners.
Glenrowan battery awaits financial closure before construction
The Glenrowan battery is expected to proceed to construction once financial closure is achieved.
SEC says the project will support local employment during its development and construction phases.
Storage to support supply during peak demand
Under the agreement, SEC will gain access to the battery's storage capacity, which the company says will allow it to capture solar energy generated during the day and make it available when demand is highest.
SEC says the addition will significantly increase storage within its growing energy portfolio, strengthening its ability to supply government, commercial, and industrial customers across Victoria.
The company also expects the battery to support grid reliability and put downward pressure on wholesale electricity prices by making more energy available at times when it is needed most.
Miller points to portfolio combining generation and storage
SEC CEO Chris Miller said the agreement would help the company meet its customers' energy needs as Victoria's renewable energy transition gathers pace.
"Energy storage is critical to ensuring our customers have access to affordable, reliable electricity when they need it," Mr. Miller said. "This agreement will allow us to make better use of the solar energy generated during the day and strengthen our ability to supply customers during periods of high demand."
Mr. Miller added that SEC is building a diverse portfolio that brings generation and storage together to support Victoria's energy future.
The company currently supplies renewable electricity backed by storage to more than 4,400 sites across the state, meeting approximately five percent of Victoria's total electricity demand.
Pacific Partnerships highlights solar farm track record
Pacific Partnerships General Manager – Energy, David Lovell, said the SEC agreement continues the company's strong relationship with the Victorian Government.
"We value our long-term and successful partnership with the SEC, which builds on the success of our solar farm being the first of those selected for VRET 2 support to start generating renewable energy for Victoria," Mr. Lovell said.
He noted that the battery project represents Pacific Partnerships' first large-scale BESS hybridisation, and said the company looks forward to similar success while further enhancing the solar farm's record of high availability levels and strong operational performance since May 2024.
"Our agreement with SEC provides an important foundation for progressing the battery towards construction and delivering future investment and employment opportunities in Victoria's northeast," Mr. Lovell said.
