Econergy has bought 100% of the shares in the holding company behind four operational battery energy storage system projects in the UK, securing full ownership and control of the assets. The four standalone BESS sites together total 106 MW and are already commercially operational.
The acquired portfolio is expected to deliver roughly USD 6.29 million in EBITDA in 2027, a figure calculated before any proposed augmentation work is carried out.
Assets currently running as one-hour systems
All four projects are currently configured as one-hour batteries. Econergy has identified the potential to extend their storage duration to three hours, which would enable the projects to hold more energy and dispatch electricity over longer periods.
According to the company, such upgrades would provide greater flexibility in responding to shifting power prices and market conditions.
Operational capacity jumps to 196 MW
The transaction lifts Econergy's operational UK battery storage capacity from 90 MW to 196 MW and increases its count of grid-connected assets in the country from two to six.
Its existing operating fleet consists of the 50 MW/100 MWh West Melton project, running since 2024, and the 40 MW/120 MWh Dalmarnock facility, which connected to the grid on 1 October 2026.
Storage pipeline underpins European strategy
Beyond the newly acquired assets, Econergy has 1.6 GW of UK storage capacity in development as part of a plan to diversify its European portfolio across technologies and markets. Storage now accounts for approximately 45% of the company's total portfolio and 40% of its advanced portfolio.
Across Europe, Econergy holds a 5.9 GW BESS portfolio, of which 3.3 GW is expected to be connected, under construction, or at the pre-construction stage by 2028.
Chief executive on the rationale
Econergy chief executive and director Eyal Podhorzer said, "We're pleased to be purchasing these four projects, which represent a business opportunity with clear upside. The addition of 106 MW of operational storage capacity and the potential to augment the assets to three-hour duration gives us a pathway to build on the portfolio and develop its longer-term value. Alongside our existing assets and those in development, these projects strengthen our foothold in the UK and a growing platform for further expansion."
He also added, "This acquisition reflects the way we are evolving our portfolio in response to the changing dynamics of European power markets. The UK has strong storage fundamentals, and its scale and market structure make it an important part of our wider energy storage strategy."
