Wärtsilä and RCT Solutions Launch Valo Battery Storage Venture

Valo, a jointly owned battery energy storage company formed by Wärtsilä and RCT Solutions GmbH, has begun operating as an independent company following the completion of the joint venture transaction.

The announcement, dated 1 October 2026, carries a Konstanz, Germany dateline and confirms that the new entity is now fully established rather than merely agreed upon. The launch comes roughly three and a half months after the two companies announced their joint venture agreement in June 2026.

With the deal closed, Valo moves from the negotiation phase into operational status, entering the global battery energy storage market as a newly formed integrator backed by two established industry players.

An integrated platform spanning the full project lifecycle

The companies have outlined a broad scope for the new venture. Valo will focus on building a strong and competitive global energy storage platform that combines integrated battery energy storage system (BESS) solutions with manufacturing capabilities, intelligent controls and optimisation technologies, project execution and lifecycle support.

That scope extends across the full arc of a storage project, from the design and manufacture of the systems, through the controls and optimisation layer governing their operation, to ongoing support after commissioning. The stated ambition is to serve the utility-scale segment of the battery storage market on a worldwide basis.

What each parent contributes

According to the companies, Valo draws on two distinct sets of capabilities. Wärtsilä contributes established global energy storage capabilities, its technology, its customer base and its project expertise. RCT Solutions brings engineering expertise, vertical integration know-how, global supply-chain knowledge and industrial execution capabilities.

The companies position this pairing, a technology and project delivery partner alongside an engineering and industrialisation specialist — as the foundation of Valo's offering and a solid basis for serving customers in what they describe as the rapidly evolving utility-scale battery energy storage market.

Business as usual for RCT Solutions

RCT Solutions has emphasised that its involvement in Valo does not change the shape of its existing business. The company describes the venture as an important step in expanding its battery energy storage activities, building on its expertise in renewable technology engineering, manufacturing industrialisation and global project execution.

At the same time, RCT Solutions will continue its existing operations, projects and customer activities independently, with solar PV manufacturing engineering remaining a core area of expertise. Customers and partners continue to engage with RCT Solutions directly on its standing activities, while the storage work shared with Wärtsilä proceeds under the Valo name.

Communication under Valo's own identity

RCT Solutions has directed interested parties to Valo's own channels for further detail on the new company. Information is available through Valo's official website, and the company has established a LinkedIn presence where updates on its activities will be published.

The referral to dedicated channels reflects Valo's status as an independent, jointly owned company rather than a division of either parent, with the venture expected to communicate with the market under its own identity.

Confirmed facts and outstanding details

The announcement confirms the completion of the joint venture establishment, the joint ownership structure between RCT Solutions and Wärtsilä, Valo's focus areas, and the continuity of RCT Solutions' independent operations. It does not, however, disclose the venture's leadership team, its headquarters location beyond the Konstanz dateline of the announcement itself, the financial terms of the transaction, manufacturing locations or the size of intended production capacity.
