TCL SunPower has confirmed that the TCL X5 is now available for order throughout Europe.
The launch extends the company's portfolio beyond solar generation and residential storage, allowing distributors and installers to offer integrated solar-plus-storage solutions to commercial and industrial customers. Availability is backed by technical support covering installation, commissioning, and warranty.
Among the first real-world uses of TCL SunPower's newly launched TCL X5 industrial hybrid energy storage system is a project in Spain, where installer Electricidad EUFON converted an off-grid solar water-pumping system installed in 2015 without battery storage into a hybrid system.
According to Adolfo Bartolomé Redondo, Head of Renewable Energy at Electricidad EUFON, the upgrade was achieved without expanding the site's photovoltaic array. Surplus solar energy that previously went unused is now stored and used to extend pumping beyond daylight hours, supporting the farm's growing irrigation needs while reducing dependence on diesel generation.
Redondo cited the system's all-in-one architecture, off-grid capability, and integrated generator input as factors that made it straightforward to connect with EUFON's own automation and control systems.
The X5 targets small commercial and industrial sites with a factory-assembled, pre-wired design that integrates the 50 kW hybrid inverter directly inside the cabinet. Many commercial storage systems require the inverter to be transported, mounted, and wired on-site; the X5 instead arrives as a single unit, reducing installation complexity and minimizing on-site work.
TCL estimates the approach can cut last-mile transport and installation costs by up to 60 percent compared with systems assembled on site, offering installers a plug-and-play alternative to custom-built systems.
TCL positions the X5 around a specific gap in the market: sites too small to justify a custom-engineered battery system but too demanding for a residential-scale solution.
The base unit is rated at 50kWh or 100kWh and scales to 400kWh by connecting up to four units in parallel, letting sites start with a single cabinet and expand capacity as demand grows without replacing the system.
The cabinet stands 1.90 meters tall with a footprint of 1.37 square meters and a weight of 1,200 kg. The inverter carries an IP66 rating and the cabinet IP55. Operating temperatures range from -30°C to 50°C, making the unit suitable for rooftop, outdoor, and industrial applications.
The system supports on-grid, off-grid, and microgrid operation; achieves islanding in less than 20 milliseconds; offers black-start capability without any grid or PV connection; and accepts generator input up to 138 kVA.
Three layers of monitoring span the cabinet, battery pack, and individual cells, supporting fire suppression, gas detection and arc-fault interruption. The system is managed through TCL's EMS controller and a web and app interface, is VPP-ready, and complies with GDPR and ETSI EN303645 cybersecurity requirements for connected devices.
Steven Zhang, General Manager at TCL SunPower Global, described the X5 as the first milestone in a broader strategy to bring a complete commercial and industrial energy portfolio to Europe.
Over the next 12 months, he said, the company will expand from hybrid storage systems for small and medium businesses to megawatt-scale solutions, allowing partners to address a wider range of customer needs.
Zhang noted that the power electronics, thermal management expertise, and manufacturing scale behind the X5 were developed and proven across other TCL businesses for years, and that applying that capability to energy storage represents the beginning of a much broader journey.
Installers and site owners can learn more about the system during a webinar co-hosted by TCL SunPower and pv magazine on 23 October, with registration open via a link provided by TCL.
