The new unit in Dakor, Gujarat, is slated to begin operations by October 2027 and will cater to customers in both domestic and international markets.
Funding and Strategic Overview
Sahaj Solar, which is based in Ahmedabad, plans to fund the project through a combination of debt and internal accruals, with an estimated investment of about USD 2.63 million. This figure excludes the cost of the factory premises, which have already been constructed.
The company stated that the battery energy storage system (BESS) plant will support its strategy of vertical integration within its existing solar power business. Sahaj Solar is currently active as a solar module manufacturer and as a provider of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services.
Storage Market Context in India
The announcement comes as India's battery storage segment continues to expand. According to a report, the country's cumulative installed battery storage capacity stood at 9.3 GWh as of June 2026.
Standalone battery storage made up the bulk of the total, representing 83% of total capacity. Projects combining solar and wind with storage that offer round-the-clock capabilities accounted for 9%, while solar-plus-storage projects made up 8%.
Solar-plus-wind projects with storage and floating solar-plus-storage held marginal shares of the overall mix. Procurement activity also grew significantly during the first half of 2026. Among Indian states, Gujarat leads in pipeline capacity for standalone battery storage, followed by Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh.
Overseas Expansion Through UAE Subsidiary
Beyond the Gujarat facility, Sahaj Solar has been moving to broaden its manufacturing footprint internationally. In March 2026, the company's board approved the incorporation of a step-down subsidiary in the United Arab Emirates to implement a proposed 750 MW solar manufacturing facility in partnership with a strategic partner.
The UAE move followed a review of an earlier plan to build a solar panel manufacturing facility in India. After evaluating prevailing market conditions and the potential cost advantages available in global manufacturing markets, the company opted to pursue the project through a UAE-based entity instead.
Latest Financial Performance
The storage investment announcement arrives alongside a period of growth in the company's consolidated results.
Sahaj Solar's annual reports show consolidated revenue of USD 44.15 million in financial year 2025-26, an increase from USD 34.77 million in FY 2024-25. Profit after tax for FY 2025-26 was USD 3.12 million, compared with USD 2.90 million a year earlier.
