BELECTRIC, the photovoltaic and battery storage specialist within Elevion Group, has taken on the General Balance of Plant (GBoP) role for Bertikow, a large-scale standalone battery energy storage system being built in the municipality of Uckerfelde in the German state of Brandenburg.
The contract covers construction of the facility for project partners ENERTRAG SE and Enlight Renewable Energy. With a rated output of 200 megawatts (MW) and storage capacity of roughly 840 megawatt-hours (MWh), the project ranks among the largest battery storage systems in Germany.
As GBoP partner, BELECTRIC is responsible for the civil and electrical infrastructure of the project up to the 33 kV medium-voltage level. The company's remit spans on-site interface management, road and earth works, foundations, cabling, archaeological monitoring, and environmental mitigation measures.
Initial construction activities on site have already begun. The official groundbreaking ceremony took place at the project site on October 13th, 2026, with representatives from all three companies in attendance. Present for BELECTRIC were Kai Klingenhagen, Shahab Valamanesh, Esther Jantosch, and Philipp Roos; ENERTRAG was represented by Simon Imhoff and Jan-Philipp Schrapp; Ran Fux attended on behalf of Enlight, and Chris Globert attended for Worley. Commissioning of the facility is expected in the first half of 2028.
The Bertikow facility is a standalone battery energy storage system using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, a chemistry recognised for its long service life and high efficiency. Once operational, the plant will take part in Germany's energy and ancillary services markets, supplying flexibility to help balance electricity supply and demand.
The companies state that the project will stabilise the regional power grid, strengthen security of supply, and support the continued integration of renewable energy sources into Germany's energy system.
Jaroslav Macek, CEO of Elevion Group, said that as Europe's energy systems become increasingly renewable, flexibility and resilience are growing just as important as generation capacity. He noted that by supporting the construction of project Bertikow, Elevion Group succeeds in addressing both challenges. Dr Thorsten Blanke, CEO of BELECTRIC and member of Elevion Group, said that with Bertikow the company is delivering one of Germany's most significant battery storage projects as a GBoP partner.
He added that, as one of the largest BESS in the country, the project demonstrates that battery systems can play a vital role in strengthening grid resilience and ensuring a secure energy supply in the renewable energy era. Marko Liposcak, General Manager, Enlight Europe at Enlight Renewable Energy, observed that as renewable energy expands across Europe, large-scale storage is becoming essential to grid flexibility and reliability. He said Bertikow will help meet these needs while further strengthening Enlight's presence in the European energy storage market.
