Enefit OÜ, a wholly owned subsidiary of Estonia's state-owned energy group Eesti Energia AS, has officially opened two wind farms in Lithuania. The Kelmė I and Kelmė II projects were inaugurated on 29 September 2026 and together add 167 MW of renewable electricity generation capacity to the Lithuanian electricity system.
The company put approximately USD 362.63 million into developing the two sites.
Once fully operational, the Kelmė wind farms are expected to produce around 530 GWh of electricity each year. Enefit says the output will lift the share of renewable electricity generated within Lithuania and strengthen the country's energy security.
The wind farm opening is not the end of Enefit's build-out at Kelmė. The company is also developing battery energy storage systems at the two sites, sized at 16 MW and 18 MW respectively.
Across its Lithuanian wind farm portfolio, Enefit intends to invest more than EUR 33.58 million in energy storage solutions. According to Eesti Energia, these storage investments are meant to help integrate renewable energy into the grid and improve the stability and flexibility of the electricity system.
With Kelmė I and Kelmė II commissioned, Enefit's Lithuanian wind portfolio now stands at nine wind farms with a combined installed capacity of more than 400 MW.
The opening of the wind farms was announced on 29 September 2026. The recommended contact named in the announcement is Danel Freiberg, Head of Treasury and Financial Risk Management at Eesti Energia AS, located at Lelle 22, 11318 Tallinn, Estonia.
