A joint venture between China-based Sigenergy and India's Failte Energy plans to invest an initial USD 250 million in manufacturing facilities for solar inverters and battery energy storage systems (BESS) in India.
The proposed investment aims to strengthen local production capabilities as the country expands its renewable energy infrastructure.
Manufacturing Sites and Approvals Under Review
Rahul Morde, Head of Sales for Sigenergy India, disclosed the plans during the Renewable Energy India Expo in October 2026.
The joint venture is assessing potential manufacturing locations and seeking the necessary investment approvals before proceeding with construction.
Inverter and Battery Storage Manufacturing Plans
Sigenergy entered the Indian market earlier in 2026 and is now preparing to expand its presence through local manufacturing.
The first phase of the investment will focus on establishing an inverter manufacturing plant, which is expected to begin operations by the second quarter of 2027. A separate battery energy storage systems manufacturing facility is planned to follow within six to eight months of the inverter plant becoming operational.
The proposed factories would support the production of equipment used in solar power generation, electricity conversion and energy storage. Final site selections and manufacturing capacities have not yet been announced.
Expanding Production for India's Renewable Energy Market
The planned investment comes as India continues to expand its solar and wind power generation capacity, creating additional demand for renewable energy equipment and grid-scale storage solutions.
Solar inverters convert electricity generated by photovoltaic panels into a form suitable for grid connection and consumption. Battery energy storage systems complement renewable generation by storing surplus electricity and making it available when demand increases or generation declines.
By establishing domestic manufacturing operations, the Sigenergy-Failte Energy joint venture intends to serve India's expanding renewable energy sector with locally produced power conversion and storage equipment.
Research and Development Facility Under Consideration
In addition to the manufacturing plants, Sigenergy plans to establish a research and development center in India dedicated to battery energy storage technologies. Morde said the company has fulfilled India's local data storage requirements and is pursuing regulatory and investment approvals associated with its expansion.
Sigenergy's existing product portfolio includes batteries, solar inverters, and energy management software for residential and commercial customers. The proposed research facility would complement its manufacturing plans by supporting the development of energy storage solutions for the Indian market.
Hong Kong Listing Supports International Expansion
Sigenergy's Indian manufacturing plans follow its initial public offering on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in April 2026, through which the company raised approximately USD 562 million.
The proposed USD 250 million investment represents a significant commitment to developing local production capabilities. However, the project remains in the planning stage, with site selection and investment approvals still pending.
According to the announced schedule, inverter production is targeted to begin by the second quarter of 2027, followed by battery energy storage systems manufacturing approximately six to eight months later.
New Inverter Technology and Manufacturing Capacity
The Indian expansion plans follow other developments in Sigenergy's manufacturing and product portfolio.
The company recently introduced a 166 kW inverter for commercial and industrial solar photovoltaic applications. Designed to improve power density and conversion efficiency, the inverter supports installations combining solar power generation with battery energy storage.
The equipment can operate at elevations of up to 5,000 meters, although performance derating begins at 4,000 meters. This operating range enables deployment in high-altitude solar installations.
Sigenergy has also opened its Nantong Smart Energy Center in Jiangsu Province, China. The facility forms part of the company's international manufacturing strategy and supports its development of energy technologies incorporating artificial intelligence.
The proposed investment in India would further extend Sigenergy's manufacturing network, with the planned inverter and battery storage plants providing additional capacity to serve one of the world's growing renewable energy markets.
